In this first episode in a series organized by the Institute for Energy Law’s 2nd Leadership Class on timely and useful industry updates, Brett Podkanowicz, EnCore Permian, catches up with Leadership Class cohort and friend Miles Indest, McGuireWoods LLP. Miles focuses his practice primarily at the intersection of energy and trade secret litigation, helping energy companies resolve business disputes and protect their intellectual property. In this conversation, Brett and Miles discuss the importance of trade secret protection, adjusting to life personally and professionally under quarantine, and making mental and physical health a priority.

I currently serve as an in-house attorney with EnCore Permian, a Midland- and Austin-based upstream exploration and production company backed by a large private capital firm. Active in multiple organizations dedicated to energy law and land operations, and serves on the Institute for Energy Law’s Young Energy Professional Committee. I grew up in and around Buffalo, NY and went to law school there, but decided to take a risk by taking the bar exam in Texas and chasing a career in Texas. So far this Yankee carpetbagger has not been kicked out of Texas, yet.
This blog will serve many purposes and touch on many topics, including but not limited to discussion of interesting industry articles, developments in oil and gas law, professional development, and sharing opinions on relevant issues.
